New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): Attacking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the murder and rape of the doctor at RG Kar Medical College and hospital in Kolkata, Bharatiya Janata party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Wednesday said that it seems Mamata Banerjee is trying to protect someone as she said the case will be transferred to CBI after a few days.
He accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of mishandling the situation by not transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) immediately, which he claimed would have ensured an unbiased probe and protected the crime scene which is important for the evidence collection.
“After reading the judgement and media reports, it seems like Mamata Banerjee is trying to protect someone. She will have to answer today…the first 48 hours are very important for evidence collection and Mamata Banerjee gave a statement that when this crime took place, she said she would transfer the case after a few days. the question to her is why?…if the case would have been transferred to CBI immediately, they would have conducted an unbiased probe and protected the crime scene,” said BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia while holding a press conference.
The BJP leader attacked Kolkata Police for their initial response to the incident claiming that they failed to register an FIR and instead categorized the case as an “unnatural death.”
“When a heinous crime happens, the state police is duty bound to register an FIR. Did it happen? When this incident happened, FIR wasn’t registered and rather the police said that it was an “unnatural death case,” Bhatia said.
The incident that took place on August 9, has sparked widespread outrage and led to protests within and beyond the medical community.
