Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 15 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the landslides and flash floods over the past few days have severely disrupted normal life across the state.
Negi said efforts are underway to restore roads, electricity, and water supply, particularly along the severely affected Chandigarh-Manali highway.
He added that 139 electricity DTRs have been affected and around 745 drinking water schemes disrupted. Restoration efforts are underway, and compensation assessments are ongoing for houses that have been washed away.
Speaking to ANI on Monday, Jagat Singh Negi said, “For the past 2-3 days, landslides have occurred at several places on the national highway, due to which traffic, especially on the Chandigarh-Manali highway, has been disrupted… Every possible effort is being made to reopen the connecting roads… As for electricity DTRs, 139 were affected until this morning, and approximately 745 drinking water schemes are impacted… Officials are on the spot, working to restore roads, electricity, and the water supply…For the houses that have been washed away, an assessment is being done, and appropriate compensation will be provided…”
A day earlier, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reported that the ongoing monsoon had claimed 105 lives across Himachal Pradesh between June 20 and July 14, 2025, as heavy rains continued to wreak havoc in the state.
Out of 105 deaths, 61 deaths were directly caused by rain-related calamities, including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, fire incidents, and electrocution, as per the official cumulative report released by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) under the Department of Revenue.
Additionally, 44 people lost their lives in road accidents, which have sharply increased due to the slippery terrain, poor visibility, and road damage caused by relentless rainfall.
The worst-hit district remains Mandi, accounting for 17 rain-related deaths, followed by Kangra with 14 and Hamirpur with 7. Other fatalities occurred in Kullu, Bilaspur, Una, Shimla, Chamba, and Kinnaur districts. (ANI)
