New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): The Congress MP in Rajya Sabha, Rajeev Shukla, said that every Indian is proud and delighted with Manu Bhaker and that this time India will win more than 20 medals at the Olympics.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Shukla said, “Every Indian is proud of her, every Indian is delighted. The way we won our first medal, even if it is a bronze medal, it is not easy to get a bronze medal in the Olympics because hundreds of countries participate in it. I think we will get more than 20 medals there this time, and I hope other Indian players will also perform well.”
Speaking on the bronze medal won by Bhaker and her partner Sarabjot Singh in the 10 M Air Pistol Mixed Team event, Shukla said that every medal is coming to India and it has got huge potential in all regimes of the game.
“This second medal was in a joint event, but every medal is coming to India. This will motivate the youngsters. India has got huge potential in all the regimes of the game,” he said.
He further said that they need to help and promote the athletes and the government should increase the budget of the sports ministry and the ministry should provide infrastructure at the domestic level.
“We should help them; we should promote them… Private people are already helping them. The government should be helping them; the government should increase the budget of the sports ministry and the sports ministry should spend money to create players and provide infrastructure at the domestic level,” he said.
Earlier, Manu Bhaker and her partner Sarabjot Singh secured bronze in the 10 M Air Pistol Mixed Team event. On Sunday, July 28, Bhaker won bronze in the women’s individual 10M air pistol event. Manu Bhaker also achieved a historic feat after she became the first Indian women’s athlete to win two medals at the same Olympics. (ANI)
