“Responsibility of our party to ensure names of voters remain present in electoral rolls after due inspection”: SP MP Dimple Yadav on SIR – World News Network

Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 29 (ANI): A day after the poll body announced it would conduct the second phase of Special Intensive Revision across 12 States and Union Territories, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said on Tuesday that the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls can’t be “stopped” and it is the responsibility of party organisation to ensure the name of voters remain present in the SIR after due inspection and scrutiny.
The SP MP noted that the revision of electoral rolls was implemented in Bihar during the assembly elections. Polling for 243 constituencies will take place on November 6 and 11, with voting to be held on November 14.
Yadav, who represents Mainpuri in the Lok Sabha, said, “We cannot stop SIR. It has been implemented in Bihar, and that too when elections are ongoing in the state. This means we still have a lot of time. If SIR is implemented, it is the organisation’s responsibility to add as many people as possible to the voter list, and the list should be checked and further inspected,” Yadav told reporters here.
Congress MP Imran Masood briefly told reporters, “The Election Commission is constantly decreasing its credibility… It is very unfortunate if the credibility of the institution that is supposed to protect democracy is questioned in this manner.”
He also referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. “Certainly, Mahagathbandhan will work its way towards the ladder of success under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi”, adding, ” That we will form the government in Bihar”
