Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Three men suspected of transporting ganja (marijuana) from Orrisa were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on Friday morning, police said.
The arrest was a joint action by the Crisis Response Team and the Expressway Police. Around 60 kg of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh was seized from their possession, they said.
The arrested accused were involved in supplying the contraband in and around the Delhi NCR region, they added.
According to DCP (Crime) Shakti Mohan Awasthi, the accused used to bring the ganja by bus and supply it in bundles.
“All three smugglers also have criminal histories,” he said.
The police are also collecting information about the association the smugglers are a part of.
Earlier, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested a wanted and rewarded drug supplier identified as Chitrasen Pardia, a resident of the Ganjam district of Odisha, on June 27.
During the search for the rewarded criminals, the police said, “Secret information was received regarding a rewarded criminal named Chitrasen Parida, that the accused has been living in Ganjam district of Odisha and changes his location frequently.”
The police further added, “The same was verified by the concerned police station and the Court, and it was found that the above mentioned accused, Chitrasen Parida, has been wanted in the case u/s 20/25/29 NDPS Act and 174A IPC, PS Pandav Nagar, New Delhi, and he has also been declared absconder by the Honourable Court of ASJ-02, Special Judge (NDPS), KKD Courts dated 25/02/2002.”
The police further added that surveillance was mounted to trace the movement of the accused. For the same, a team was sent to Odisha and after relentless pursuit, on the basis of information, they arrested Parida in the above mentioned case.
As per police, Parida was apprehended after the diligent field and technical work by HC Sandeep Kumar.
Parida had started supplying macro-substances at different places in India. He was also arrested in 2022 by STF Bhubneshwar, which seized his property worth Rs 2 crore. He has also been arrested by the Gujarat Police in the past. (ANI)
